About The Department
Department of Indian Philosophy under the school of Sanatana Dharma & Indic Studies is established in 2015, has been contributed significantly to meet the set objectives ( as stated in 4.2 of act of the university) of the University. The department of Indian Philosophy was started for promoting the Indian Philosophical thought. Philosophy is an activity of critical inquiry and a comprehensive process of thought. It involves testing and evaluating positions, uncovering assumptions and examining philosophical systems. Philosophy, being a rational inquiry, sharpens our thinking, enriches our understanding and expands our intellectual horizons. To acquaint students with such a philosophical understanding the department of Indian Philosophy offers programs of teaching and research in philosophy at M.A & Ph. D level covering various fields of philosophy e.g. Classical Indian Philosophy, Buddhism, Jainism, Nyaya, Mimamsa, Sankhya, Yoga, Vedanta, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophical Reasoning, Ethics, & Feminist Philosophy. The department also offers various certificate courses for students such as Introduction to Indian Philosophy & Practical Vedanta of Swami Vivekananda etc. The department is committed to provide such an enabling environment wherein young minds can get good exposure of different areas of Philosophy and can learn methods of philosophical inquiry. The department has introduced an innovative syllabus with emphasis on different branches of Indian Philosophy. The syllabus of MA is formed text-based and problem-oriented. Such a syllabus along with the adoption of new methods of teaching marked a wide departure from the practices of other universities. All the courses of the department are interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary.

Objectives of the Department
- To provide quality teaching in Indian Philosophy.
- To adopt suitable methodology suitable for teaching and research in Indian Philosophy.
- To organize lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops etc. to enhance sharing of experience and knowledge with scholars of the world.
- To publish creative and critical writings at appropriate forums.
