Prof Bimalendra Kumar

Vice-Chancellor
(Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies)

Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor' Message

Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies shows a clear institutional journey from a legally established to a functioning, expanding and internationalizing Buddhist University rooted in Indian Knowledge System. Its first challenge was to become a real University in Sanchi. It should be visible and living to Buddhist world and among all South-east Asian countries.

Its next challenge, for 2026 and beyond, is to become a Global Buddhist Knowledge University. This requires disciplines like Buddhist Studies, Pāli, Āyurveda, Yoga, Sowa-rigpa etc. My vision is to nurture scholars, who are rooted in ancient Indian tradition, to preserve Buddhist and Indic heritage while innovating for the future, and to make Sanchi a place where learning in Buddhist Studies leads to compassion (karūṇā) and peace (śānti). Sanchi University must become the foremost hub for research on Buddhism and Indic knowledge systems. My goal is to establish an Institute for Manuscript Studies and Translation to digitize, preserve, and translate rare Pali, Sanskrit, and Tibetan Buddhist texts.

To serve a University, situated at Sanchi is to serve the very heart of Buddhist and Indic civilization. I pledge academic freedom, dignity, and support for rigorous research. My humble effort will be to ensure that Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies becomes a lamp for Madhya Pradesh, for India, and for humanity seeking wisdom in a troubled age. I believe that our right efforts would be able to make Sanchi University an important centre of global Buddhist-Indic Knowledge.
I seek the blessings of all Ācāryas, the cooperation of all colleagues, and the Mettā of all well-wishers.
Ārogino khemino hontu, sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā !
